Meet Kate's Collectibles

Kate's Collectibles is your friendly neighborhood coin shop in Port Charlotte, Florida! We deal mostly in US coins & currency, but we also deal quite a bit in antiquities, ancient coins, exonumia, foreign coins & currency, and more! You can buy anything from common date Wheat Cents, to 1895 Flowing Hair Dollars, to Civil War Tokens in our shop and on our live auctions.

But, we're not just a coin shop. Everyone who works at Kate's Collectibles is a collector at heart, meaning we don't just buy & sell coins - we all have a serious passion for the hobby. Kate, our owner and lead numismatist, has been collecting coins since she was a little kid. Growing up with her maternal grandparents, she had the opportunity to look at lots of rare coins and continued collecting and coin roll searching until she found a career opportunity to sell coins for a living. She focuses on proof type coinage. Tim, our resident archaeologist and numismatist, has been collecting coins since he was 12 years old as well, starting with foreign coinage as an avenue to explore the world around him from the middle of nowhere Missouri. He still collects world coins but has expanded to a wide variety of foreign, ancient, US, and bullion. Chad, or lead auction host on eBay, started collecting coins a bit more recently, when he was introduced to ancient coins - he now has a focus on collecting old US copper, specifically large cents.

Kate's Collectibles sells all things numismatics at a brick and mortar shop in Port Charlotte, Florida, but we also sell a huge volume on eBay Live. We've built an incredible community of not just buyers, but friends. We try to host a dinner for our buying community at regional coin shows we attend, bringing everyone together to put a face to the name and really get to know everyone. It's a beautiful community of collectors who, even if differing in politics, religion, world views, can come together with a love for numismatics.

Our process is pretty much the same as any other coin shop. We start with buying inventory - this might be from other dealers or coin shops, but we try to buy from the public more than anyone when collections come into the shop. We pay extremely fair prices (15% more than competitors on average) and focus on building relationships so people feel comfortable and at home at our shop.

After purchasing inventory, it must be processed. We remove items from their old holders and put them in fresh ones, we try to get all old stickers off slabs, and we put our cost code, dates, conditions, and new prices on them to get ready to sell. Items are then put into inventory logs and their relative boxes for Chad to sell on eBay or Tim/Kate to sell in the shop.

Finally, once items are purchased, we must package up and ship. We have a team of two, Edinho and Joan, who package each item with care and place a label to be dropped off with USPS. These may be items purchased on eBay, as well as private sales with a vast number of clients who buy high-value numismatics from us.

While Kate's Collectibles is a relatively new shop, our processes are well-defined and we've already created an outstanding community of collectors, and we're having fun doing it! Stay tuned for more news and weekly blog posts on our website!
